Club: History
An Introduction to the Wanneroo Golf Club (Inc) "The Gem of the North".
The idea for the Wanneroo Golf Club was formulated by a group of amateur golfers in 1970 out of frustration, limited access and facilities that public golf courses offered, so they decided to build a "Private Golf" course.
This vision was achieved in three short years with the official Opening Day being the 14th March 1973.
In these days the course was situated way out in the bush with very few conveniences.
Today it is recognised as a suburb of Perth in one of the fastest growing areas in Australia.
This unique story has recently been documented through the publication of "The Forming of the Wanneroo Golf Club" as told by the Foundation Club Captain Merv Wells (1970-75).

The Foundation Committee instigated, fostered the volunteers and sponsors who literally built the course with their own hands.
Thus was born the "Can Do" attitude that the members today, can enjoy first class facilities unique championship 18-hole course which the Club Membership fully owns all the assets freehold.
A truly great legacy for today's members made possible by the Founding Members vision.
Situated 30 km north of the City of Perth this "Gem of the North" was originally designed by Bob Green with the assistance of Murray Dawson and is in itself a monument to the growth of the Wanneroo Area and the Aussie pioneer spirit with the distinction as being the first fully reticulated course in Western Australia.

The course today is a 72 par 6208 meters and boasts examples of Western Australia's natural fauna and wildlife including the Club's emblem the Kangaroo Paw and the presence of the Kangaroos and the colourful "Blue Wrens".
In the past 5 years the Members have undertaken substantial renovations to the Clubhouse, Bar, Ablutions areas, fully equipped Proshop, New Course Maintenance Building, Buggy storage and have commenced major upgrades to the Course itself.
In 2003 the Club hosted the "Western Australian PGA" which was won by Kim Felton (World Amateur Champion) who was a Club member before turning Professional and a product of our Junior Programme.
In 2010 the Club will celebrate its 40th year since its inception, and in its short history it has built affiliations with prestigious Clubs around the world and nationally.
